Oil often gets most attention when people ask questions about how much fossil fuel there is left in the world. However we should not overlook all the fossil fuels on the planet, so how much natural gas is left in the world? And when will natural gas run out?

The major reserves of natural gas are found in countries including Russia and Iran, but many other countries have smaller reserves. The most recent estimates are that there is roughly six thousand trillion cubic feet of natural gas left in the world distributed in gas fields all over the planet. Like with the amount of oil left in the world, this seems like a hell of a lot of gas. Though given the current rate of use, this equates to only 60 to 65 years of natural gas supply left in the world. Again, as with oil, this estimate is could be cut shorter or extended, depending on what the increasing usage will be with regards to growing economies and whether new gas fields will be found.
Emerging economies like China and India will use more and more natural gas reserves as their economies grow and demand for fossil fuels and natural gas increases. This could put a huge strain on how much natural gas is left in the world and could reduce the estimated time when natural gas will run out.
The predictions of when natural gas will run out or how much gas if left in the world could be way out. If new sources of natural gas are found in the future then there may be many years of natural gas available for use. With recent technological developments the chance of finding more natural gas has increased slightly. Exploration efforts are increasing due to technological developments in easing the ability to transport natural gas. The problem with this however is that it is still merely prospective and is in no way certain. It is therefore vital that the world seeks more sustainable and renewable energy sources rather than taking the chance that more gas may be found in the future.
